Artists are already a little out there. Being on the fringe of the artistic community? Now, that’s something worth checking out. Since August 29th, Philadelphians have enjoyed the Philadelphia Live Arts Festival & Philly Fringe Festival. The Live Arts Festival features 21 established dance and theater artists who are selected and invited to the festival. The Fringe Festival, in its twelfth year now, highlights a wider range of both new and established artists, allowing for a more “unfiltered” display. The 16-day festival showcases local, national and international pieces and is staged at various places throughout the city, including in Old City, Northern Liberties, Center City and our own West Philly. Here are a few highlighted upcoming events:

Jérôme Bel The Perelman Theater at the Kimmel Center 260 South Broad St. Sept. 11-13, 8 p.m., $15 One of the more widely-known artists featured at the Live Arts Festival is Jérôme Bel. The French choreographer is showcasing his award-winning contemporary dance piece, The show must go on. For the first time, Bel is using dancers outside of his own company; to highlight the artistic talent of native Philadelphians, Bel has directed the show with dancers from the Pennsylvania Ballet as well as the University of the Arts.

Leah Stein Dance Company & Mendelssohn Club of Philadelphia The Rotunda, 4014 Walnut St. Sept. 13, 2 & 4 p.m., $15 Just around the corner from FroGo, don’t miss out on this collaboration between choreographer Leah Stein and renowned choral group, the Mendelssohn Club. Set in West Philly’s very own Rotunda, the production features 100 singers and eight dancers. A Philadelphia resident, Leah Stein brings a local feel to the festival.
