So, fashionista, you’ve been seeing that lovely kimono coverup at Urban and all over Instagram, but you’re still on the fence about whether or not you, y’know, like, NEED need it. Never fear, whether you’re budget conscious or looking for a little more indie cred, here’s a simple DIY to bring this trendy piece of cultural appropriation to your closet.

You will need:

1.5 yards of fabric

Scissors

A needle and thread

Step One:

Fold your fabric in half, and cut the fabric as if you are cut it in half lengthwise. Stop halfway before you get to the top

Step Two:

Thread your needle. No joke, this is the hardest part.

Step Three:

Stitch up the sleeves. If you wear the fabric over your shoulders, you can tell where the sleeve holes are supposed to go, and now just stitch along them to the desired sleeve width.

And there you have it! You now have a unique, only slightly offensive piece to keep you covered on your trips to the beach or when you want to look summer chic even when the fall semester starts.
