Some days, I’m just too hung over to play video games. On a morning when my eyes are still unable to focus, the flashing lights and seizure-inducing animation can be a little much. But still, I just can’t take my mind off of it. Guitar Hero is calling.

Luckily for addicts like me, there is an alternative: Guitar Hero III, the soundtrack. Sure, there’s some okay music on this — Sonic Youth, AFI, Queens of the Stone Age. Some fuckin’ sick music. But I never make it past track one. This real gem — the game’s theme song — is a piece of musical genius and virtuosity and is easily the strongest track on the album. Constantly on repeat, it gets me through the day, pushing the limits of what I thought possible for music.
