Food and Culture
ANTH-184-301

Jane Kauer
Discover the “meanings underlying eating and food in the United States, and the different ways that individuals construct ‘self’ and identity through food and eating.” Profound, man. And a 1.77 difficulty rating on Penn Course Review can’t hurt.

The Politics of Food
PSCI-135-401

Mary Summers
An academically-based community service seminar about food, cross-listed with Health & Societies and Government Administration. Better yet, students are required to attend various “food events” at Penn. Participation points never tasted so good!

Writing Seminar in English: Food For Thought
WRIT-039-312

Thomas Devaney, Jr.
This food writing course teaches students about the craft of writing through descriptions of their culinary adventures. The course also includes field trips and various gourmet adventures. Devaney is a Street editor fave, and this class is nearly impossible to get into. So abuse Penn InTouch this summer and snag one of the rare open spots.
