With registration around the corner and a schedule of boring requirements staring you down, remember that school doesn’t always have to provide a nuts-and-bolts education. Indulge yourself next semester — with everything from cinema production to clay wheel throwing, it’s a great excuse to take a break for a bit and unleash your creative side.

Printmaking: Relief/Screen Printing
Instead of completing final projects you might be embarrassed to show off on your walls (self-portraits, anyone?), students in this printmaking class use relief and screen printing techniques to create funky, modern projects for both sharing and wearing. [FNAR 252]

Video I
Whether you’ve always wanted to produce an Oscar-winning film or just aspire to become the next YouTube sensation, this Fine Arts/Visual Studies/Cinema Studies course takes you through the ins-and-outs of producing, directing and editing to create your own digital shorts. [FNAR 061]

The Big Picture: Mural Arts in Philadelphia
Also cross-listed with Urban Studies, this Fine Arts class lets you leave your signature (literally) on West Philadelphia. Combining history lessons on the mural movement with actual production instruction, students work with local high schoolers to paint a large outdoor mural. [FNAR 222]

Mosaic and Tiles
Instead of studying the mosaics of ancient Rome, experience the thrill of creating your own colorful masterpieces using ceramic tiles and clay. [FNAR 262]
