Thirty, single and overweight. Every woman’s worst nightmare is Bridget Jones’s reality.

Renée Zellweger stars as the awkward yet adorable heroine who keeps a diary to record her endeavors to lose weight, stop smoking and find Mr. Right.

Bridget gets into all kinds of shenanigans, as she deals with “Smug-marrieds” and “Singletons,” overbearing parents and falling for her boss (if Hugh Grant worked in your office, wouldn’t you?). And then there’s the ever-present dilemma that all women face: granny panties or thong?

Brilliantly scripted, the film offers witty insight into the minds of a love-starved and neurotic single woman in London. Bridget’s trivial struggles, like choosing between Mark Darcy (Colin Firth) and Daniel Cleaver (Hugh Grant), make us all feel a little better about our messy love lives.

However gratuitously chick-flicky this film may be, it’s the perfect accompaniment to an evening with good friends (Ben and Jerry's, anyone?).
