1225 Raw Sushi &

Sake Lounge

1225 Sansom Street

(215) 238-1903

When was the last time a sake bomb took more than thirty seconds? This week, scrap the beer and table pounding and sip on a carafe of this traditional Japanese rice alcohol. Instead of wasting away a drink of rich textures and subtle flavors, try expanding your palate and savoring sake the way it should be: alone.

1225 Raw Sushi and Sake Lounge, a trendy Center City spot, gives you the chance to discover a wide variety of sake. At 1225 Raw, you can drink it filtered or unfiltered, warm or room temperature.

Manager Jesse Lee recommends that you first try a Kaori ($24 for an 8 oz. carafe), a mild filtered sake. This was an excellent starter for an inexperienced sake drinker like myself, for it had a smooth, sophisticated, slightly fruity flavor, and a light aftertaste. It should serve as an introduction to a great world of flavor.
