The select few of us Penn students who are not from the tri-state area had limited options when it came to celebrating the Jewish New Year. We could revisit Irvine Auditorium (a place we hadn't been since Freshman NSO), or we could check out Hillel (a place we hadn't been. ever). For those who live west of 37th, the 9 a.m. stroll to Hillel's cozier student-led service was infinitely more appealing than the trans-campus trek to Irvine. Inside, rows were monopolized by Hillel cliques and a sampling of the Greek scene: Phi Delt and Tri-Delt having a mixer to the left, AEPi to the right, AXO and SDT in the back, Theta conspicuously absent. As we were forced to remain standing for a good 45 minutes during the final portion of the service, the room started to empty out. Did people really have class, or could they just not take the heat? When you're getting your weekly massage at the Rittenhouse this weekend and a fellow Penn student comes in complaining of a backache, you'll know where they were Tuesday morning.
