Just over a week ago, this campus suffered, once again, the tragic loss of a member of our community. With that, once again, came grief, confusion, sadness and a renewed conversation about mental health at Penn.

Some people love running, some people find it to be the worst possible way to spend their time. No matter where along that spectrum you lay, there’s no denying that running is great exercise and that it's getting slightly more tolerable with the nice weather. We’ve made it one step better by giving you something to look forward to based on how far you want to run (or walk). And yes, all of those destinations are 100% food–based. Nothing gets me off my ass like the thought of a stack of pancakes.

If you’re a senior, you’ve got one short month to live it up and ball out in this wonderful city of brotherly love. If you’re not, you’ve got no excuse to not make it to all of these places in your years left. Here are all the things you absolutely cannot call yourself a Penn graduate without consuming:

We were going to try to squeeze these both into one picture, but let’s
be real, they deserve better than that. The dish features whipped
Nutella with semisweet chocolate ganache nestled between thick slices of
Le Bus brioche bread. A house–made meringue on top is precisely toasted
to make the s’mores French toast exactly as amazing as you think it is.
The fluff is sweet, the toast the right amount of crunchy and the
Nutella somehow not overwhelming. The heirloom tomato and earthy braised
kale balance out the creamy hollandaise and poached egg to make an eggs
Florentine–style creation. Also, the potatoes are fried in duck fat.
Okay, we’re done.

We walked into the month–and–a–half old Double Knot for happy hour and found the bar area already packed. Chef Michael Schulson, of Sampan and Independence Beer Garden fame, has, at the very least, mastered the trendy aura. The bar has dim mood lighting but a prominent couch to keep it from being too intimidating and uptight.

Your one stop shop on campus for salads, soup, sandwiches and coffee has added yet another reason for you to forget about your dining plan. Kitchen Gia’s new juices feature seasonal ingredients straight from the farm whenever possible, add-ins like avocado oil and whey protein to actually fill you up and absolutely no artificial sweeteners.

As you flip through the pages of this dining guide you’ll see chicken tikka masala pizza (p. 31), lemon curd pie (p. 27), red velvet pancakes (p. 19) and more. I see a bucket list.

We don't claim to be beer aficionados by any means, and we won’t pretend our beer experiences didn’t begin with 40s of Hurricanes at high school basement parties. But when we realized there’s more out there than just Natty, we decided to take a stab at the sexist stereotype that beer is a boy’s drink. We made our way over to William Street Common to try out their new, shockingly affordable drink menu (all beers and cocktails are $3). Here’s what we tried, as per the bartender’s recommendations, and our inexperienced reactions.

As we entered the donut store around 7 a.m., the sweet smells of hot dough and cinnamon spice already filled the kitchen and wafted over to greet us. It was reassuring to know that heaven never sleeps. Or at least sets an alarm earlier than yours.

While this sounds like it could be an Onion headline, Penn researchers actually analyzed over a thousand pictures of department leaders at the top 50 medical schools receiving NIH (National Institutes of Health) funding. They defined and categorized mustaches to standardize the process, with options such as Dali, Fu Manchu and Super Mario. They then came up with a “mustache index,” the proportion of women/proportion of mustachioed department leaders, so as to produce statistically significant results. The overall mustache index was a meager 0.72, and mustachioed men outnumbered all women by six percent. The researchers drew conclusions from these less–than–shocking data to recommend more women be appointed to leadership roles, in particular in academic medical environments.

Nerds are everywhere. They’re in your
classes, they’re hiding behind your friends (or
they are your friends). And they like to have
fun. Let’s be real, you wouldn’t be at Penn
unless you had some nerdy element to you.
You rant to your friend about some article
you read or actually kind of like doing that
one problem set. For those times you want
to geek out but also have a beer or two, the
Philly nerd scene has got you covered. We
found some nerdy events and groups—pretty
much all free—to get you started.

We have collectively made it through January, which means we're one month of 2016 down and Feb Club's in full bloom. If you're not a senior, you might not know about this month–long festival of events and deals that Class Board puts on every year. If you are a senior, you're probably trying to figure out which events (if not all) to go to. No matter who you are, you need to make Reading Terminal Market (on the 6th) a priority.

Restaurant week(s) is live in Philly until January 29th (excluding the 24th). Especially since the Pope’s visit pushed fall restaurant week up to August and out of the school year, this is an opportunity not to be missed. For those who don’t know, during the next two weeks some of the best restaurants in Center City will feature $20 lunch (three courses) and $35 dinner (four courses). While this can be an amazing opportunity to try incredible meals, $35 still isn’t chump change, especially when you think about how many times $35 could pay your cover at Smokes'. Here are some tips to make sure you do restaurant week the right way and leave full, happy, and feeling like the thrifty Penn student you truly are:

Winter break was fun and relaxing, no question, but tbh we're kinda thrilled to be back at Penn. January means classes aren't real and you've got some time to kill. We're using that time to eat, and here's where we're heading first:
