On July 24, Billie Eilish broke what seemed to be a month–long Instagram hiatus. She posted a simple photo of herself standing on a dirty roof in her typical baggy sweats and oversized hoodie, the dark grey of her matching set stark against the cotton–candy sky. The caption was brief: “‘my future’ out thursday.”

“I have never been more in love with anyone than I am right now, and it is absolutely soul–crushing to know that my partner is 2,000 miles away from me and I won’t see him for at least another four months,” reads a recent anonymous post on the popular Facebook page "Penn Crushes."

The Tiger King series is undoubtedly the universal quarantine past–time, but watching con men with five teeth attempt to murder each other can get disheartening, at least for me.

Reality in the United States today is drastically different from the blissful ignorance of a few weeks ago when COVID—19 seemed—and was—an ocean away, a danger desensitized by distance. Now trapped in quarantine, people have inevitably been turning to screens to pass the time, oscillating between news—reading, binge—watching, FaceTiming, social—media—scrolling and even Tik—Toking. Life in the real world may be on pause, but the online world seems to be operating as usual, if not hyper—actively.

It was lunchtime in middle school. The plastic brown tables were all lined up ready for the next group of students to take their seats, discuss their plan for the weekend, their recent Chemistry exam, and the rainy weather that forbidden them from playing outdoors.

Walking outside, it’s hard to tell it’s technically still winter. The sun is bright, with the temperature at a constant 50 degrees, and the air smells like spring. Even so, I am still feeling the negative effects of the season—being outside means dry hands and chapped lips. That's no good for Valentine's Day. Whether you've got a date planned with your significant other or you're just holding out hope for cupid to strike on Friday, your hopes for love will be dashed if your lips are too chapped to kiss. Here’s a special DIY lip balm you can make from the comfort of your own home that will keep your lips soft and ready for love.

At Penn, hearing the word “BYO” brings to mind establishments like Ken’s Seafood or Iztaccihuatl. For many students, the idea of a BYO restaurant doesn’t extend beyond the usual rowdy club or organization meeting meant for drunk bonding and less–than–average food. However, BYO restaurants can be much more than just a location for boat races, and can even make for a classy dinner. Here are some of the best BYO locations for any mood.

As the clocks turned to midnight on New Year’s Day, a new decade began, but it felt as though all anyone could talk about was the past. The “Roaring 20s”, the nickname for the 1920s decade, brings to mind lavish, Gatsby-esque lifestyles. Now a full century ago, the 20s also coincided with Prohibition, a time when alcohol was banned in the United States. In true fashion, Americans did what they could to get around this rule—enter speakeasies, elusive locations where people could drink and party in legally dubious settings. The locations were secret, giving them a cult of exclusivity and mystery that has stuck around today. Though the actual Prohibition is over, these speakeasies in Philadelphia can help you revisit the now century–old mindset.

I read Little Women for the first time in sixth grade, climbing to the top of my bunk bed every night armed with the four–inch–thick novel in one hand and a book light in the other. The story of a Civil War–era family of four daughters was one I soon grew infatuated with. So when its latest film adaptation by Greta Gerwig came out, I ran to see it.

The latest news of the emo revival arrived not with a bang but with a whimper, in the form of a quiet Twitter and Instagram announcement from My Chemical Romance: tickets for a single show would go on sale on Friday, Nov. 1, 2019 at 12 p.m. PST (3 p.m. EST). The performance will take place on Dec. 20, 2019 at Shrine Expo Hall in Los Angeles, the band's first since their breakup in 2013. With so little information available, Killjoys and Members of the Black Parade are left wondering whether this is a flash in the pan, or if they have reason to fully unpack their black t–shirts and eyeliner that have been sitting in boxes for the past six years.

When pop princess Kim Petras first broke out with songs like “I Don’t Want It At All,” a glitzy ode to capitalist excess hooked around the line “close your eyes and swipe it," life and lyrics didn’t exactly line up.

Any respectable Millenial–Gen Z cusper has fond childhood memories of watching American Idol back in its heyday. In the emerging world of reality television, the celebrity judges’ state–wide search to find the next pop star dominated the prime time slot. For nearly twenty years it churned out—to the behest of the American public—a number of impressionable entertainers including Kelly Clarkson, Jennifer Hudson, and Carrie Underwood. Since the noughties, the show has lost its luster and programs like The Voice and The X Factor have attempted, and mostly failed, to fill its niche. This is where Netflix’s new series, Rhythm + Flow comes in. In a contemporary pop landscape commanded by rap and hip–hop, a refreshing and enticing televised competition has finally emerged.

With the 2019–2020 NFL season finally in full swing, I can’t help but long for home. Growing up, my father was relentless Giants fan, screaming through every touchdown, flag, and interception. The TV blared into the night every Thursday and Sunday as we ate various fried foods. Even as the stress of my junior year settled in, I could count on my dad to have all our family friends gathered around the living room, stuffing their faces with classic Mozzarella sticks, gooey nachos, and my mom’s famous homemade wings. Coming to college, I’ve lost the excitement that used to accompany football games. Beyond being scared to wear my Giants pride high, between coursework and clubs, I’ve run out of time to truly sit down and enjoy a proper game without being overwhelmed by stress.

Queen & Rook has only been open for a little for over a week and already has regulars. Honestly, we’re not surprised. This board game cafe in Queen Village offers over 1,200 games just on site, and another 1,000 kept in storage. The options available range from every special edition of Monopoly, to several versions of Apples to Apples, and even some raunchy adult truth–based games. The shop also has game experts wandering around the cafe and providing game recommendations. With a selection this extensive, the fledging business is trying to make board games cool again.

Honest Tom’s closed this summer, but you probably wouldn’t know it. Within a month, the restaurant reappeared, churning out the same soft shell tacos and overstuffed burritos in that quaint house on 44th Street. Only it wasn’t really back at all—it became an entirely new restaurant.

One of the last things I expected to do in my first week of senior year was share a meal of vegan chicken with my freshman year ex–hookup. And yet, there we were. Maybe I said yes to his DM'ed dinner invitation because I wanted to tell myself I had fully moved on and genuinely cared about how he was doing. Or, maybe (definitely) my self–righteous ass was just bored and wanted to give him shit for working at Google and hoped to get a free meal out of it too (I didn’t). This passive–aggressive curiosity begs the question: is staying friends with an ex mature or masochistic?
