1. Jordi’s Mom isn’t Dead

Nurse Brittany embarrasses Dr. McAndrew when arrives he for work by announcing that he had sex the night before because he was wearing his blue tie (how she figured that out is anybody’s guess). When the woman he met at the bar the night before shows up to the hospital and says that she is Jordi’s mother, everybody is shocked. Jordi considered her a bad mother because she abandoned him with his grandmother, so he claimed she was dead. While his mother gives him a chance to win his emancipation in a poker game, Jordi folds a winning hand to allow his mother to win and be allowed to stick around.

  1. Leo Tries to Rekindle his Relationship with Emma

With Jordi and Emma growing closer, Leo volunteers to help her make treats to get close to her as well. When Leo apologizes for their breakup, Emma grows angry and accuses him of not being afraid of dying while they were together, but being afraid of living and being stuck in a relationship with her (this insecurity goes hand–in–hand with her anorexia). They manage to reconcile, but while Leo wants another chance at their relationship, Emma firmly states that they’re just friends.

  1. Dash Gets Jealous

Accustomed to being Leo’s best friend and the center of attention, Dash grows increasingly upset that every other character is more focused on Jordi. Although Brittany tries to reassure him that there’s nothing wrong with feeling heartbroken from a bromance, he tries to discredit Jordi to Leo as soon as he learns about Jordi’s mom. While Leo goes back to Dash since it seems a Jordi and Emma romance is on the horizon, Dash doesn’t learn to curb his jealous tendencies.

  1. Kara Needs to Pass her Drug Test

With her spot on the transplant list in jeopardy, Kara must stay sober. After getting caught hooking up with her boyfriend, Kara must spend the rest of the day under the watchful eye of Nurse Jackson. While Jackson believes she can find Kara’s soft side by placing her with young children, Kara tries taking a little girl’s medication. After yelling at Kara, Jackson confides in Kenji that she isn’t upset because she wants Kara to live, but because she hates Kara so much that she worries she’ll intentionally not help her. (It’s refreshing to see an honest relationship between a nurse and a difficult patient.) Miraculously, Kara manages to pass her drug test, but takes another pill from her purse right after receiving the results.

  1. Odds and Ends

There seems to be a lot of illegal activity going on in that hospital: patients regularly trade their medical marijuana for other favors, Kara attempts to steal a little girl’s medication and Dash starts a bet on the card game that even Nurse Kenji puts money on. Speaking of illegal activities, Charlie’s exiled father has not appeared since the first episode; has he been unable to sneak in to the hospital recently or has the show decided to drop that plot?
