1.

Kara goes to homecoming.

With her high school celebrating homecoming, Kara is given permission by Nurse Jackson to attend, as long as Brittany chaperones. Although Kara puts a lot of effort into looking great and maintaining her reputation at the dance, she soon learns that everybody there pities her and even the unpopular kids no longer fear her. When she is awarded Homecoming Queen and celebrated for being a tough and strong person, she gets upset. Leo comes on stage to talk about how terrible a person she can be, so she kisses him to prove it. With her former reputation ruined, Kara decides to cut all ties with her ex–classmates.

2.

Emma makes some new friends.

Encouraged by Brittany to attend Kara’s homecoming, Emma is extremely nervous about not knowing anybody. Although Leo surprises her by showing up to keep her company, she revels in the attention she gets from two girls who are impressed by her small dress size. These new friends encourage Emma to continue not eating and she touches none of her lunch the next day. It seems Emma isn’t far from reaching the rock bottom that will inevitably convince her to turn things around.

3.

Leo has a scholarship opportunity.

After receiving an email from a Stanford soccer recruiter, Leo becomes desperate to complete physical therapy and get back on the field. Nurse Jackson even arranges for him to train with a former professional athlete/fellow amputee. But when Leo runs into a former competitor at the homecoming, he becomes extremely defensive about being able to still play as well. After watching Kara struggle with trying to be the same person she once was, Leo realizes he can’t go back and decides not to rush into soccer again.

4.

Jordi starts chemotherapy.

With his mom signing off on his new treatment, Jordi begins the painful chemotherapy. In an attempt to seem like a cool mom, Eva gives Jordi money to go to the movies and have some fun. While at the movies, Jordi begins to feel ill and passes out, but fortunately Dash was with him to alert the hospital. When confronted with how sick her son is and chastised by Dr. McAndrew for letting Jordi leave the hospital, Eva decides she is in over her head and takes off after signing Jordi’s emancipation papers. The other patients and doctors are Jordi’s only family now.

5.

Odds and Ends.

Nurse Jackson grows increasingly angry with Eva’s poor parenting and looked very hurt when it was mentioned that she wasn’t a mother. It seems highly possible that she either can’t have children herself or already lost a child to illness. Poor Brittany is dealing with breaking up with her boyfriend, even though she moved away from her family to be with him. She breaks down crying when seeing all the couples dancing at homecoming, but she seems to be feeling better by the end of the episode. Dash continues to spend most of time worrying about Leo and Jordi; does he really have nothing of his own going on?
