Double counting sector requirements, pass/fail grading, getting into that exclusive seminar—no one understands the frustration of refreshing Penn InTouch during Advance Registration like Arman Ramezani (C, W ’20).
It's Tuesday at 8 p.m., and Rosy’s Taco Bar is almost packed. Couples and small groups huddle around elevated tables or seat perched at the bar, deep in conversation. With its dark, candlelit, intimate, and industrial ambiance, going to Rosy’s feels like a last minute date with an intriguing stranger. The exterior appears deceptively low–key, a plain grey building tucked at the corner of 22nd and Walnut. Meanwhile the interior is surprisingly long and spacious, boasting floor–to–ceiling windows, a fully stocked bar, and an impressive array of hot sauces displayed proudly at the entrance.
From flying through the air, flipping, and doing back handsprings, gymnastics requires spectacular balance, strength, and grace. For Caroline Moore (C’19) and Valerie Rube (C’19), tumbling is only half the work. As senior gymnastics co–captains, Valerie and Caroline act as liaisons between the coaches and the team of 22 gymnasts. They lead team workouts, communicate with Penn Athletics, and manage team morale. For Caroline, being a captain means being “that force behind the team that really drives them forward.” She and Valerie work together to keep spirits high in and out of the gym. The women’s gymnastics team competes every weekend from mid–January to the end of March, with a total of 14 meets throughout the season. Over spring break, the team competed in two meets in Missouri and scored a personal best in Maryland, placing second overall.

On Sunday November 18, over 30,000 runners hit the Philly streets for the Philadelphia Marathon. Think 26.2 miles is impossible? This week Street spoke to Penn students running full and half marathons to discuss their training plans, motivation, and pre–race rituals. Here’s what they advised:
Waxing, shaving, weaves, extensions, going au–natural; how women style their hair is highly commodified and politicized. Learn more about such topics with PAGE—the Penn Association for Gender Equality—at their annual “Love Your Body Week” exhibition, a celebration of self–love and women’s empowerment.
Nothing says like self–care like a solid face mask. Unfortunately, sheet masks don’t always come cheap. This week, in an effort to save $$$ and de–stress from midterms, I treated myself to a DIY spa day. Using simple pantry ingredients, I recreated staple beauty products for a quick at–home pamper session, with interesting results.
Running a successful food Instagram account takes more than picking the perfect filter. This week Street talked to four “insta–famous” food Instagrammers at Penn to discover the tips and tricks of the trade.
Is the dishwasher the final frontier of cooking? Search “dishwasher dinner” online and you’ll find a slew of blogs and articles with recipes you can cook while simultaneously washing the gunk off your cereal bowls. Even Oprah offers up a recipe for lunch cooked in the dishwasher—salmon and asparagus over noodles. As a self–described foodie and avid cook, I had to discover this for myself. Clean dishes and efficient meal prep? Count me in.
2018 was declared “Year of the Woman.” In the age of #MeToo and Brett Kavanaugh’s contentious nomination, what does it mean to be a sexually empowered woman in college? August McLaughlin, a nationally recognized health and sexuality writer, media personality, and creator of the female sexual empowerment brand Girl Boner had plenty to say on the topic. Her recently published book Girl Boner: The Good Girl’s Guide to Sexual Empowerment delves into subjects such as sexual empowerment, masturbation, birth control, and hookup culture.
Be honest—how many hours of sleep did you get last night? Odds are, not enough. Between midterms, job hunting, and club commitments, it’s hard to find time for a solid eight hours. Whether confined to a closet in the Quad or sharing a wall with "active" neighbors, you deserve better. This week Street rounds up the best free apps with sleep technology so you can snooze in peace.
“Today is National Burpee Day!” exclaimed Nanci, my Orangetheory instructor for the next hour. “We’ve got a special workout in store!”
