Whether you like it or not, summer is halfway over. So, what better way to ease the mental transition from chill to, well, Penn, than to check out all of the insane music coming to Philly this fall? If there’s any way to get your friends to leave the Penn bubble, it’s a bangin’ can’t–miss concert. Street’s rounded up the hottest (and coolest) acts coming to the greater Philadelphia area right around when class picks up.

It seems that, every year, more and more festivals pop up with more and more artists jumping on the summer set bandwagon. With hundreds of festivals slated to bring hours of music to fans this summer, it can be hard to keep track of who’s playing where—and who is worth seeing. Here are Street’s picks for the top five artists performing this summer (and where you can see them).

When Rita Ora’s new song “Girls” dropped last week, the singer called it a "bisexual anthem" and marketed it as her personal lyrical coming–out celebration. Now, only days later, the British songstress has issued an apology over critiques of being “tone–deaf.”

In the 3rd grade, Christopher D’Urso convinced his parents to take him to Washington DC. He was coming off a high after watching National Treasure. Maybe he went in the hopes of finding the hidden treasure Nicholas Cage’s character spends the movie hunting. He got to witness both the Supreme Court and Congress in session instead. Suddenly, he just knew: he was going to work in government.

During an interview with interior designer Axel Vervoordt for the Hollywood Reporter, Kanye West casually mentioned that he may be working on a book of philosophy. Fast forward six days, and Yeezy has already started working on the book via Twitter.

Meet Hunter Heflin (C '18). Hailing from Bethesda, Maryland, this part time senior has been juggling Camp Kessem, his frat, and Spring Football during his time at Penn. And oh, yeah, he's also one hell of a rapper.

So far, 2018 has given us a few gems in the rap music world—Post Malone announced that he'll be releasing a new album called Beerbongs & Bentleys, CupcakKe dropped Ephorize in January, and early March gave us Logic's Bobby Tarantino II with all of its Rick and Morty weirdness. And now, in April, we have been blessed with the hottest release in the twittersphere: a Wendy's diss tape.

First things first; if you haven’t been to Boot and Saddle yet, you’re missing out. A giant neon sign of a cowboy hat and boot with spurs beckons you in to a bar that is equal parts Western kitch and hipster grime. Nestled in the back behind the main room is an intimate concert venue, with restored yet perfectly distressed painted patterned tin tiles lining the walls and ceiling. The stage is a simple set up of a keyboard on the right, drums in the back. A tattered, hand–woven rug and tapestries artfully draped around the walls bring warmth to the otherwise bare stage. Boot and Saddle is intimate, fiercely non–mainstream, and perfectly quirky—in other words, perfect for an intimate night of indie folk.

Ah, 2014. ‘Twas the year that Pharrell started wearing those giant hats on red carpets, Gwyneth Paltrow and Chris Martin decided to ‘consciously uncouple,’ and How I Met Your Mother (finally!) finished airing.

As soon as you walk through the sparkling glass doors of Stock, a Southeast Asian eatery specializing in all things noodles, it is clear that attention to quirky detail reigns king. Vibrant green chopsticks bring a pop of color to the otherwise minimalist, monotone decor. Located in Fishtown—proximity may be the only downside to this insanely good noodlery—Stock serves traditional Vietnamese and Thai cuisine with fresh flair and a spicy kick.

In a word, MGMT’s concert was a trip.

Greetings, loved ones. Much has happened in the last week in the music world, and no, we're not talking about a breakthrough in the monotony of party playlists over Paddy's weekend. In the hoopla that is the pre–summer, pre–festival season, artists are on their A games as they release teasers and full–on albums alike in order to generate as much buzz as they can. And generate buzz they did! Street has you covered on the news you may have missed in the post–darty shuffle.

Hello, friends. It's time again for your weekly roundup of this week’s wildest music industry news. It seems that whatever craziness goes down in this world, the music industry always takes the cake for the strangest, most obscure—yet relevant—completely off the wall stories. From alleged kidnappings (what!?) to appearances on Family Feud, to just genuinely exciting announcements of new projects in the works, here are Street’s top picks from the soup that was this week.

She's been described as a cross between Joni Mitchell, Bob Dylan, and Courtney Marie Andrews. Record–producer and musician Ryan Adams heard one of her original songs and then invited her to produce a 7–inch at his studio the next day. She's about to open up for Bon Iver in London, and has played with legendary bands like the Violent Femmes and The War On Drugs. Everyone, it's Phoebe Bridgers.

It's easy to get lost in the milieu that is the Twitter news cycle. With all of their fans at the touch of a button, artists are able to drop the craziest and most exciting of news 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. And no matter how skilled you are at not going down the Facebook news rabbit hole—I myself have fallen prey to the hell that is the Buzzfeed quiz vacuum—it can be hard to pick out the juiciest, most exciting tidbits of entertainment new that actually matter. But fear not, my friends, Street's got your back.

Gucci Mane has more to celebrate this week than his 38th birthday—which he declared the holiday of “National Guwop Day”—two days ago. The Atlanta–based rapper’s memoir, subtly entitled The Autobiography of Gucci Mane, is now being adapted for the silver screen.

Much has been ado about the Super Bowl halftime show since JT’s severely lackluster–and quite honestly, amateur—performance last Sunday. Prince was a projection and not a hologram as promised, there was no NSYNC reunion, and Timberlake wore possibly the most bland and confusing halftime show outfit ever. When JT ran into the stands in his not–so–grand finale, even the audience members had no clue what was going on. Needless to say, it would have taken another wardrobe malfunction (sorry, Janet) in order to bring some color into that black hole of a spectacle.

The hours after the Eagles’ Super Bowl win were a blur. As a sea of green and white clad fans—some die hard, some fresh on the bandwagon—ran through the city towards Broad Street and City Hall, the city’s morale was at an all–time high and inhibitions were at an all–time low. Fireworks ricocheted off the city buildings lining the street, raining green crystals down on the crowd and filling the air with a sulfurous smoke. Traffic lights were knocked down and their lights kicked out. The Ritz’ awning fell with about as much grace as Tom Brady when he (finally!) got sacked in the fourth quarter.

Unless you've been living under a rock for the past few weeks, you know that Philly Super Bowl Mania has officially taken over the City of Brotherly Love. The street poles have been greased, Philly has been painted green and white, and “Fly Eagles Fly” has been plastered on every possible public surface. Regardless of how into football you are, it would be impossible to not get caught up in the hype. And, regardless of how into the Super Bowl you are, almost everyone tunes into the halftime show. In celebration of Super Bowl 52 and the Eagles victory, here are Street’s picks of some of the best acts to ever take the field.
