Falling Inn Love is as unwatchable as it is cliché. Now, there’s nothing wrong with cliché—when done properly, it gives us exciting superhero movies and classic romantic comedies. Falling Inn Love, however, takes every unoriginal platitude and ruins it. At best, this is frustrating. At worst, it enforces toxic gender roles in the workspace and in romantic relationships.

Everybody Knows is a Spanish foreign film, a family drama, and a kidnapping mystery wrapped into one. Laura (Penélope Cruz) returns to Spain from Argentina for a family wedding. She brings only her son and daughter—leaving her husband behind for the first time—and partakes in wedding festivities with her family and their friends, the most notable among them being the bubbly Paco (Javier Bardem), Laura's old flame. Everyone appears to be getting along—until Laura’s daughter, Irene (Carla Campra) goes missing.

Thanks to a plot that's delightfully simple and richly funny, “It’s Bruno!” is possibly the easiest show to binge. With eight episodes that are each approximately 15 minutes long, Netflix's latest comedy proved to be a very entertaining way to spend a Sunday afternoon.

It’s no secret that the role of the Gay Best Friend (or GBF, for short) is almost required for any romantic comedy. Where would Mean Girls be without Damian, or Clueless without Christian? However, recent films like The Perfect Date reminded us of the regression and one–dimensionality of the GBF, which can perhaps most easily be seen in the way the role can be wrapped up into three little letters devoid of any nuance.

We all loved Noah Centineo in To All the Boys I’ve Loved Before, because really, what was not to love? The overwhelmingly positive—and slightly obsessive—response to this cliché yet innovative film was well–deserved. However, Netflix has taken a great movie and the refreshingly adorable Peter Kavinsky (Noah Centineo) and overused them both to the point where they become dull and false in their new film The Perfect Date — and they’ve exposed Centineo’s uncomfortably bad acting in the process.

I wasn’t entirely sure what to expect when I settled into my seat at the Ritz at the Bourse to see The Aftermath. I hadn’t seen a trailer and I hadn’t read the book, but I knew that Keira Knightley starred in the film alongside Alexander Skarsgård and Jason Clarke, so I had high hopes.

Comedian Ricky Gervais has always been a controversial figure. His typical brand of humor is mocking, and can come across as insulting. In hosting the Golden Globes on four separate occasions, he consistently received hotly mixed reviews, seeing as his performance was largely based on the ridicule of many of the celebrities in the audience. However, his routines can also be sharp and hilariously relatable rather than mean—sometimes. Unfortunately, his newest Netflix Original After Life, released on March 8, crystallizes his resentful attitude, but without any of his redeeming wit.

It’s time for an African–American film to win the Oscar for Best Picture. The universally coveted award has been facing serious backlash in recent years for its homogeneity, as #OscarsSoWhite so succinctly puts it. Two extraordinarily powerful African–American films have made it to the nominations shortlist this year. BlacKkKlansman and Black Panther sent out shockwaves throughout the country upon their releases. The two are both groundbreaking films, but here’s why BlacKkKlansman should get the Oscar over Black Panther.
