It’s easy to get overwhelmed here. I can’t tell you how many times a day I hear the words and phrases: OCR, resume, LinkedIn, summer internship, what the hell do you want to do with your life, oh you’re a cinema studies major okay. Its equally easy to get caught up in it all, even to get dragged into courses and activities and plans you honestly don’t give a damn about. That’s why the best thing to happen to me this week was taking a step back from it all and experiencing something that hits close to home: hearing the inspiring story of Brian Koppelman, a screenwriter from my very own hometown.
After excessively stalking Clarkville’s Yelp reviews and online menu, we were very eager for our meal. At first glance, Clarkville looks awesome. With its bright industrial interior filled with colorful art, modern decor and chalkboard walls, this restaurant provides a fun, young and alternative dining setting. However, known for its weekend brunch, Clarkville on a Sunday afternoon was less crowded than we anticipated.
When my parents said I couldn’t go to the Madison Square Garden show of the Watch the Throne tour sophomore year of high school, I cried for about a week. I dropped way too much money on floor tickets for the Yeezus tour my senior year—thank you, Hanukah Harry. I got strep throat after waiting for nine hours—some of that in the rain—at Made in America my freshman year at Penn just to see his short set. We’ll blame the shortly thereafter contracted mono on that, too.
The Perks of Being a Wallflower:
The cinema studies department at Penn offers many classes every semester that will educate you about the many different aspects of film. Le duh. However, many other departments have classes that include films in their syllabi. Try searching “films” or “movies” in the "Description includes” search bar of Penn Course Review. For specific recommendations, allow me to refer you to a Street article from a couple weeks ago, aka an article I wrote. Yup… shameless.
