It can be hard to meet people. We've all been there. And at some point, downloading a dating app sounds like the most logical solution. But with so many options, it can be hard to decide which one to try. This week I ventured into the world of dating apps to compare and contrast. How would the experience of online dating differ between Tinder, Bumble, and Hinge? I set up three nearly identical profiles on the apps—my location radius set to ten miles, my gender of preference set to male, and the age range between 20 and 28 years old.

Last week Trolley Car Station, the latest restaurant in University City, quietly opened its doors unannounced. This week Street went to get the rundown.

How is your trash doing? Odds are you threw away something made of plastic today. Versatile, durable, cheap—plastic is everywhere. The average American throws away 185 lbs of plastic per year, 40% of which is single–use. Less than 9% of plastic is recycled worldwide. Most of it ends up in the ocean, choking turtles and forming giant islands of trash.

“Squeeze, squeeze, squeeze.” Red faced and dripping sweat, I clenched my thighs together, cursing the tiny rubber ball wedged between my legs. “Now squeeze and squat. Squeeze and squat,” intoned the cheerful instructor, gracefully demonstrating the plié. I gripped the wooden ballet barre with white knuckles, quads burning and shaking. Barre is not for the faint of heart.

Sorry Fishtown, the secret is out. Gritty, artistic and cooler than Center City, put this popping neighborhood in northeast Philly on your to–do list.

Interior design and NSO do not go hand–in–hand. Last week, I found every excuse to delay unpacking, sleeping between piles of cardboard boxes to avoid the hated task of sorting the junk of semesters past. In the name of “New semester, new me,” I decided to ditch my formerly haphazard decor and strive for something my personal muse, Bobby Berk of Queer Eye, would approve.

Pull out the crop tops and short shorts. We’re three weeks away from summer vacation. In these last frantic weeks, Pottruck is packed with students looking to slim down, tone up and burn off finals anxiety in time for break. But there's more to fitness than what you can do on a treadmill. This week Street talked to bodybuilders and nutrition experts at Penn to learn how they approach eating for fitness.

Most people studying in Van Pelt's Moelis Family Reading Room never really notice the huge mural on the wall, tossing it a sideways glance without reading the placard posted beside it. But the huge felted wool mural, entitled Field of Transformation, stands nineteen feet wide and sixty feet tall, commanding the entire space.

Friendly, vegan, and laid–back HipCity personifies the chill Cali girl I secretly aspire to be. This gem tucked away on 40th Street offers light, plant–based twists on fast food and several stellar salads. I ordered the Udon Noodle Salad, which comes with spicy glazed chick’n, sprouts, arugula, carrot, cabbage, daikon, scallions, peanuts, and Chinese black bean dressing. Chewy udon noodles balance out the sharp arugula, making for a satisfying salad experience. Initially I was wary of the “chick’n,” as I'm generally not one for weird meat substitutes, but its rich texture and well–seasoned umami flavors won me over.

Sleep, academics, social life, landing that double axel jump flawlessly—for figure skaters at Penn, balancing it all is second nature. This week, as bedazzled athletes jump, twirl, and land triple toe–loops in PyeongChang in hopes of Olympic gold, here at Penn, 40 students are struggling to get recognition for their sport.

“Keep your butt tucked and your core engaged. Isolate movement in your hips—up down, up down. Now maintain a still upper body. Don’t forget to smile!”

In an attempt to become the most productive person ever, I stopped eating for three days. I gave up food, my social life, and sanity in exchange for seven bottles of Soylent and this article.

Picture Pottruck at 6 p.m: bros in muscle shirts pumping iron and girls in yoga pants doing their 50th set of leg raises. Every treadmill is occupied. On the steps outside, a small group congregates before heading off into the crisp autumn evening—meet the Penn Running Club.
