Ah, the Penn Museum. It’s so close, and yet so difficult to motivate yourself to visit. If you haven’t set foot inside the picturesque South Street locale since your freshman year toga party, consider checking out the museum’s fascinating new exhibit: Iraq’s Ancient Past: Rediscovering Ur’s Royal Cemetery.

Explore the incredible findings of British archaeologist Sir Leonard Woolley’s 1922 expedition to southern Iraq, where he uncovered a 4,500-year-old regal burial ground. Admittedly, you may be haunted by the spirits of the 1,800 people whose tombs were gleefully disrupted by Woolley and his crew, but on the bright side there are more than 220 artifacts for you to feast your eyes upon, including the queen’s jewelry and a golden ostrich egg (you certainly don’t get to see one of those every day!). For you ancient history buffs, there are also plenty of documents detailing different aspects of the excavation. Make the journey — after all, entry to the museum is free for PennCard holders, and we know you like free.
