With our final issue of Summer Street ‘09, we bid you, our faithful readers, a fond farewell with this summer’s best things to do, places to go, and spectacles to see. Get out there, troops! Only four more weeks to savor the summer before a whole new crop of frosh take Uni City by storm.

Best Al Fresco Dining: Silk City Beer Garden We’ve plugged this NoLibs staple before and we’ll do it again — while Rittenhouse restaurants are picturesque on a summer day, the beer garden at Silk City truly creates its own version of the secret garden with a gorgeous patio, decorative gargoyles, and an outdoor bar to quench your thirst for delicious brews this summer.

Best Outdoor Activity: The Italian Market The colorful awnings, the fresh food — there’s nothing as quintessentially Philly as trolling the Italian Market in the summertime.

Film of the Summer: Up! Disney, Pixar and balloons. This much-loved summer film has tugged at the heart-strings of audiences as varied in age as the film’s protagonists.

Best Sips Locale: Chifa While many Sips participators have too-boring drinks or too-skimpy appetizers, Chifa covers all of its Sips bases with delicious and inexpensive options for both. The beers on tap are Philadelphia Brewing Company, and the Sips cocktails, such as the Mula Cuzco (vodka, ginger liqueur, cusquena pilsner, lime) are at once inventive and authentic. But the real kicker? The half-price pork belly buns. Mm mm delicioso.

Album of the Summer: Thriller by Michael Jackson Even if you can’t remember where you were when you found out that the King of Pop had passed, we’re betting you can remember the weeks this summer following his death when Jackson blasted from every radio station on the air. Though his life and death may have been overplayed in the news, let’s be honest — when it comes to his music, we won’t stop ‘til we get enough (and we haven’t yet!).
