Who wouldn’t love John Travolta in drag and Zac Efron with a Jheri curl?

Adam Shankman’s adaptation of the Broadway smash Hairspray hit the big screen with the same impact it had on the stage. Though serious issues such as desegregation dominate the plot, catchy tunes turn the two hours into a bona fide sing-a-long.

As the film opens, we watch the pleasantly plump Tracy Turnblad (Nikki Blonsky) roll out of bed and dance down the streets of Baltimore as if every grimy detail were there for her pleasure.

Tracy and her best friend Penny (Amanda Bynes) are infatuated with the teen performers of the Corny Collins Show. Limited by the boundaries of race and popularity, Tracy has to step up her game to win her chance to shine, fight for integration and get the cutest guy in school (Zac Efron).

Big hair and sequins aren’t the only reason we’ve fallen head over heels for this one. With a cast including Christopher Walken, Queen Latifah and Michelle Pfeiffer, this blockbuster doesn’t need the Ultra Clutch Hairspray to secure a spot in our hearts.
