I want to add a comment about an element of this election that has struck me particularly deeply.

Penn has had a woman university president throughout my four years here. We have had women undergraduate student body presidents the past three years. At Penn, I have become so acclimated to female presidential leadership that it never occurred to me that the majority of this country would feel differently.

Trying to lift our spirits today, my mom sent me and my sister a link to the Martina McBride song “This One’s For the Girls.”

If only election night had been for the girls too.
