Guide to: Penn's Public Bathrooms

The term "public bathroom" is a bit of an oxymoron. The bathroom is perhaps our last bastion of privacy, so when it goes public, it is either a final resort or a place where senators go to end their careers. Here at Penn, you can judge a building by its bathrooms, and the selection of public restrooms on campus varies from the good to the bad to the seriously ugly.

Huntsman Hall

The facilities here are way above par. You might actually be blinded by the shine deflected from the ultra-clean toilets and granite counter tops. Accessorized with automatic features at the sinks and in the stalls, this late night cram session-friendly pit stop is top of the line.

Steinberg-Dietrich Hall

The downstairs bathrooms, aside from being immaculate, are HUGE. For those scoring at home, there is enough room for you to do two consecutive cartwheels.

Houston Hall

Spacious and relatively clean, the first floor bathroom seems to be of the same wonderful species as the ones found in Steinberg-Dietrich Hall.

McNeil Building

Think roadside Taco Bell.

Williams Hall

The air in the second floor bathroom carries a faint aroma of simmering piss. (Perhaps it was due to the unfortunate fact that three out of the four toilets were clogged at the time of review.) The nice paper towels are no consolation for the poor upkeep.

Fisher Fine Arts Library

You really have to see this underground concrete chamber of horrors for yourself. The random scribbles on the stall doors serve as testaments to the utter unsightliness of this bathroom. One favorite is "This bathroom is disgusting," written in orange Sharpie. The citrus scent gel air freshener attempts to provide a quick fix, yet only makes things worse, creating a smell that is something like a mixture of Flintstones vitamins and a septic tank.
