Drinks for Fling aka FLINKS

I, Drink Boy, am making a special appearance this week to prepare all the plebes out there for the 72–hour inebriation marathon that is Fling. Here are a few drink recipes to help you actually enjoy ingesting obscene amounts of alcohol, so you can avoid that regretful aftertaste of your seventh shot of Fireball.

Tropical Mimosas

The sun is up, and your BAC should be too! Even if your day is heinous AF, at least you can say you started out classy with this drink!

Ingredients:

1 part orange juice

1 part pineapple juice

2 parts champagne

A splash of boozy strawberry puree

To make the boozy strawberry puree, chop up strawberries (two per mimosa) into bite–sized chunks. Soak them in your fave alcohol (recommended: clementine Svedka) in the fridge overnight in a covered container or a bowl with plastic wrap. One or two shots of alcohol should be good for around 6 medium–sized strawberries. In the morning, transfer the strawberries and alc into a plastic bag and smash them up with your hands until it’s a relatively uniform puree. Snip the corner of the bag and squeeze some deliciously boozy strawberries into your mimosa!

The Ginger Veil

Inconspicuous drinks that actually taste good are hard to find. Stick with this drink because it hides the look, smell and taste of alcohol so you never have to stop the lowkey turn up!

Ingredients:

Equal parts ginger ale and lemon–lime seltzer

1–2 shots of any clear, unflavored alcohol

2 wedges worth of lemon juice

Go with an unflavored alcohol here because usually those ratchet artificial flavors are what make mixed drinks taste wonky and smell suspicious. Class it up with some Grey Goose if you’re feeling fancy!

Jello Shots That Don’t Suck

The name says it all!  Nothing worse than a jello shot that tastes like medicine, so stick with these combos and you'll be slurping down tasty, jiggly morsels of goodness that will also fuck you up! What more could you ask for in a shot?

Flavor Combos:

Margarita: lime jello, tequila, triple sec

Lemon drop: lemon jello, citron vodka

Creamsicle: orange jello, vanilla vodka or amaretto liquor or Malibu (or all three, YOLO)

Fruit punch: strawberry jello, sour apple vodka or peach schnapps

Procedure (makes 16 jello shots):

  1. Mix ½ cup plus 2 tablespoons of alcohol with ¼ cup plus 2 tablespoons of water. (Really, you need to mix ⅝ cup of alcohol and ⅜ cup of water together, but who has those kind of measuring cups, amirite?) Chill this mixture until it’s actually cold.
  2. Bring 1 cup of water to a boil. In a bowl, mix 1 packet of Jello with the boiling water and stir until dissolved.
  3. Add the water/alcohol mixture to the bowl and stir. The reason you want to chill the water/alcohol is so it lowers the temp of the mixture enough so none of the alcohol evaporates from the heat of the boiling water, making the shots less potent. SCIENCE!
  4. Fill 3–oz cups halfway and refrigerate for at least 2 hours.
