Get Your Gay on, Sista!

If you're continually faced with the Thursday night dilemma of kicking off the weekend, and you just can't bear the thought of another round of Quizzo, then maybe, just maybe you're ready to shake things up a bit. Read on, adventurous soul, read on.

Kick-ass drink specials -- eight rounds for eight dollars, a free all-you-can-eat buffet, a bangin' dancefloor and karaoke all in one place sound good? Well, then you should round up your posse and make your way to Sisters nightclub, where the hype crowd is guaranteed. No, it's not a sorority thing -- it's a lesbian bar. "What's that," you say, "did you just say I should go to a... a... gay bar?" Damn straight I did. "But... but, I'm a cheerleader!" you say. No matter -- while Sisters is known as the only distinctly lesbian destination in the gayborhood, you'll nevertheless find a diversity of types there on any given night, from butchy dykes to lipstick lesbians, gay boys, drag queens and even the occasional -- gasp -- breeder. And, you know that time you went to Woody's and decided that gay bars blow? Well, not all of them do.

All three levels of Sisters are endowed with queer eye sensibilities. The ground floor, where the chrome-plated, innovatively-lit restaurant section accompanies the large main bar and humble karaoke stage, is encompassed by gigantic silk-screened panels featuring the likes of gay icons k.d. lang, Madonna and RuPaul. Upstairs you'll find a newly expanded dance floor, another full-service bar and a whole lot of girl-on-girl action. Straight boys, be warned: they know you're not gay if you're gaping and drooling; at least try to put on an unaffected air and some tight jeans, and you might be able to pull it off while you get off.

The most hazardous aspect of being a drunk dyke in Sisters is that you might spot a hot chick across the dancefloor and, as you strut your way towards her, you suddenly smash your face into the huge mirrored wall, realizing your narcissistic faux-pas with abashed horror. I guess if you're straight, you won't have to worry about it. But you never know, a Thursday night marathon of drinking at Sisters may inspire you to expand your horizons, so to speak. Whether you're coming out, or just going out, make sure you get on the scene early enough to make the best of the drink specials, which end at 11:30.
