Scarlett Fever

Walk straight past Douglas and right into Scarlett -- a charming beauty boutique tucked away near 13th and Chestnut. With exposed brick walls and leopard print carpet, this place is not your average beauty counter.

In the next few weeks, Scarlett will begin to carry upscale clothing lines such as Betsey Johnson, but for now they're still chock-full of wonderful cosmetic goodies perfect as a treat for yourself or as a gift for the girl who has everything.

Scarlett 104 S. 13th Street (215) 875-9408

Scarlett is a private-label cosmetics company with a funky flair that any girl would love. Their bestseller is their Glamo-Glitz eye shadow, a canister of pigment that can be used alone or mixed with water for a more dramatic, smudge-proof look. The shadows come in a wide assortment of colors, from flashy glittering brights to blend-in neutrals. If there's a color you want or a pigment that you'd like to add some sparkle to, the girls at Scarlett can mix it up for you right there in the store. The shadows (two for $28) aren't the only thing that can be personalized: lip glosses and liquid foundation can also be created to match your skin tone.

The new "Gift of Luck" is perfect for the more daring lady: a $40 two piece Vegas-inspired set, consisting of a lipstick whose case looks like three red dice, and a highlighting powder that resembles a stack of poker chips.

My favorite product has to be Scarlett Fever ($20). This lip-plumping gloss comes in three shades: original, which gives a clear shine, tropic, a shimmering gold and rosa, an adorable light pink.

But what makes this gloss so fabulous, you ask? Well, Scarlett's patented gloss not only tastes delicious and hydrates lips, but is also proven to make lips juicier. Yes, over time, this gloss stimulates the production of collagen in your lips, effectively making them bigger and minimizing wrinkles. Besides that, it is super-sexy and feels great.

This must-see store is well worth the trip downtown. I can personally guarantee that it will be hard to walk out empty-handed.
