Rock it : Blazers
The whole picture is key right now, with emphasis on accessories bringing interest back to the classic look. The Gap may try to ruin it, but we can't be dissuaded. Blazers are comfy, and, this season, the ones in the stores are fitted just so. The cool blouses in the stores make them even better. So long as you don't get your blazer from the Gap, its ok. Denim won't cut it. You've either got classic or you don't. Well-groomed-ness, the state of being, is simply sick of trailer/trucker hats, Britney Spears and Christina Aguilera.
Tunics
Trend of the minute: the Morrocan tunic top. You may hear the words "caftan" or "tunic" thrown around, but in all reality, what's in right now are boxy light-weight shirts with embellishment around the neck and sleeves -- a sort of mini muumuu. However, it is yet to be determined whether or not these actually look good on *ahem* the relatively large American body-type. Unless the goal is to look like a cross between a 30-something country-club mother and a rotund hippie, for most, wearing these tunics is a mistake. Perhaps it would be better to wait for other types of Moroccan or Indian-inspired clothes to come out.
Stop it: Neon
Um ... the '80s are good and over. Let it go. I know Paris Hilton's affinity for the tackiest of bright colors made us all think we looked good in electric tangerine. But,Paris embodies the American dream. We are not all cut out to give the perfect Backstreet Boy the perfect BJ. Similarly, we should embrace the fact that only certain hues are worthy of our attention this fall. Your closet should not look like Punky Brewster: The College Years. Try raw umber and hunter green so you'll look like My So-Called Life: The College Years.
