If you don't have plans set in stone for Passover, chances are you're open-minded and classify yourself as more of a "cultural" Jew, so London Grill's "Newish Jewish Feast" is where you should spend your second Seder. Located a $10 cab ride from campus near the art museum at 2301 Fairmount, the London Grill is worth the "it can't be reached by SEPTA" trip.
For $40 (price-fixed), one can indulge in a four-course Passover meal. The fare includes smoked salmon gefilte fish terrine and celery-carrot chicken soup with green onion-dill matzoh balls. Both of these courses were not your traditional homemade fare, but with modern sophistication, the London Grill used its 12 years of Passover cooking to take great dishes and make them better.
For the entrees, the same fanciful alterations on Jewish classics take place. Rather than your traditional brisket, executive chef and owner Michael McNally prepares his creative braised sweet and sour brisket. Other entree choices include crispy honey and lavender glazed duck, roasted chicken breast with rosemary and roasted lemon, poached halibut with green onion, citrus and ginger and London's horseradish crusted salmon.
If you're not already exploding at the waist, you'll be glad to know that you can choose up to three side-dishes that are included in the $40 tab. Choices include a wide variety of combinations from the traditional noodle kugel (kosher for passover-style) to eggplant ratatouille to polenta with spinach and raisins. If you have an Irish Jew with you, they will be satiated with the braised cabbage.
And remember, if you want to drag your non-Jewish friends along, the Grill's regular menu is still available.
Finish your meal off with chocolate fudge passover brownies, a sorbet selection, or rhubarb compote and caramel matzah strudel.
In addition, a traditional Seder plate featuring matzohs, charoset, a shankbone, and other Pesach symbols will be provided to "lend an authentic touch" to the meal.
Note to all: The kitchen isn't Kosher, just Kosher for Passover -- meaning no bread or anything with leavening.
If you're still trying to keep K4P throughout the week, London Grill will continue to serve items that suit you throughout the holiday. Kosher wines will also be available to fill the symblic four (or more!) cups of wine.
