Yoshimi and crew throw away the childish eager-to-please vibe of lead single "UMA," from their latest album, Taiga, with this track, the second single off the album. Instead they channel the 'roid rage that enabled Yoshimi her pink-robot battles of the past. Indeed, the two tracks serve as similar takes on the same rhythm, but "UMO," with its predatorily drummed beat and smoldering vocals, is the mean big sister to "UMA," and the superior song. Fittingly, the video conveys the undeniably tribal feel of the track, creating a strong tension between the four masked, clay drummers and the running deer. The deer's quicksand-aided demise is both expected and gratifying. Thematically, the video is structured around knocking shit over. Try not to do the same to unsuspecting Locust Walk passersby when you bump this on your iPod video. Led by the aforementioned Boredoms drummer Yoshimi, the Japanese, all-female quartet OOIOO (pronounced letter by letter), will be embarking on a rare United States tour starting this week in New York. So check out the video and see something you will most likely miss - the tour calls for only six U.S. dates, none of which are closer than New York.
