Starring: Will Ferrell and Jon Heder. That's all you really need to know before buying a ticket to a film about two guys trying to become the first ever same-sex pair of figure skaters.
After an on-ice brawl between rivals Ferrel and Heder, both are banned from competing in the males single skating division. The only way they can evade the Skating Federation's rules is to join forces and compete as a pair.
Most of the jokes that follow are crotch-centered, slightly homophobic and generally tasteless, but that's what most Heder and Ferrell fans are looking for, so the two don't bother to bring anything else to the table.
Ferrell - who plays Chazz Michael Michaels, a self-proclaimed sex addict solo figure skater - is his usual ridiculous self, with all his random and inexplicable physical jokes in place. Heder plays demure and idealistic Jimmy MacElroy, whose burnished blonde coif almost manages to clear our minds of the white boy fro of Napoleon Dynamite. But beneath the golden tresses, Heder's still playing the same clueless humor tricks.
Beyond its two costars, the only thing that's funny about Blades is the extreme portrayal of the figure skating world and all its bizarreness. From be-sequined costumes to horribly cheesy music to unusually impassioned choreography, the movie takes all the humor that competitive figure skating has to offer and amplifies it so you might not notice what a waste of time Blades of Glory is otherwise.
