Sounding a Mosaic

2004

Sounding a Mosaic, the 2004 release from Canadian reggae-rockers Bedouin Soundclash, flew far below the radar when it dropped, especially in the United States. Produced by Bad Brains' bassist Darryl Jennifer, the album has a crisp sound that every listener will appreciate. The album spans genres (from reggae to anthemic ballads) and themes (from telling the story of a journey home to giving the advice "join the workforce, boy").

The first single off the album, "When the Night Feels My Song," evokes Paul Simon and reached #1 on some Canadian charts, but received almost no attention in the U.S. The song is full of catchy hooks, as is the entire album.

When infectious melodies are coupled with the solid, cleanly executed grooves of tracks like "Murder on the Midnight Wire" and "Music My Rock," you have an album that should be lifted from the pit of obscurity and exalted as one of the gems of the 21st century.
