Tonight: Genghis Tron

First Unitarian Church, All Ages

It's been nearly two years since Genghis Tron left upstate New York and relocated themselves in West Philadelphia. Tonight, the three-piece is set to release their album Board Up the House. If their time spent as undergrads at Vassar taught them anything, it's that quality always triumphs over quantity - something their music proves without fail. The amount of sound they fit into 10 seconds -- jackhammering electronica mashed together with modern rock - produces a truly unique amalgamation that eclipses what some musicians attempt to do in 10 minutes. Steve Moore, The Austerity Program and local act Drums Like Machine Guns round out the sure to be a memorable evening. $10.

2/22: Daniel Johnston

The Trocadero, All Ages

On his cross country tour, Daniel Johnston is joined by a different backing band every night. He'll be accompanied by Philly's own The Capitol Years at tomorrow's stop at the Trocadero in Chinatown. Johnston, who suffers from autism and bipolar disorder, crafts his own brand of indie rock that has been described as "painfully direct," baring his soul for the audience while touching on themes from the devil to love. He can count David Bowie, Sonic Youth, Beck, Bright Eyes and Yo La Tengo among his fans and with good reason. His music is honest and brilliant and this is a show that should not be missed. $17 in advance, $20 at the door.

2/27: St. Vincent

First Unitarian, All Ages

Annie Clark has been in the background of fantastic musical creations for years, performing with Sufjan Stevens and the Polyphonic Spree. Under the name St. Vincent, she has embarked on a solo career of her own, releasing the critically acclaimed Marry Me in 2007. This lush, carefully crafted album is a masterpiece and her live shows are equally wonderful. It also doesn't hurt that she is totally adorable. $10 in advance, $12 day of show.
