Q: Are there any movie theaters on campus?
A: Fear not, freshman film lovers. If you're hurtin’ for a Friday night trip to the cinema after a long week of NSO madness, you need look no further than the edge of campus itself: The Rave can be found right on the corner of 40th and Walnut. The theater offers student discounts seven nights a week, with tickets only $8 a pop (Remember to bring your PennCard). It also offers $5 tickets on Tuesdays and Thursdays(!) They even recently opened a bar and lounge at the back of the theatre, called the Crave. People don't really hang out there, but hey, they're trying.
Students seeking indie films and art-house fare should look elsewhere in Philly; the Rave tends to only show movies in wide-release. On the opening weekends of truly major franchise films, like The Hunger Games, there will be huge crowds of Penn students and nearby Philly residents alike trying to elbow their way into the lobby. Our last bit of moviegoing advice? Large sodas. The popcorn is crazy salty.
