MOVIES: One more time

Eddie Murphy made a movie and it did well in the box office, so he had to make a sequel. In addition to his previous multiple version films 48 Hours, Beverly Hills Cop, and The Nutty Professor (not to mention "Raw" and "Delirious", quite possibly the best stand up acts... ever) Murphy has completed the double with his newest film Dr. Dolittle 2.

Instead of basing this version in the city like the original, Dolittle (Murphy) is dealt the task to save an entire forest and play matchmaker for Bruno, a Pacific Western Bear.

In case you were under a rock the first time around, Dolittle's gift is the ability to converse with animals. Combine this ability with Dolittle's medical background and again Hollywood produces B+ humor. Don't get me wrong--farting bears are sometimes funny, but Dr. 2 feels too much like Dr. 1 with more bathroom humor.

Murphy is reminiscent of Chuck Woolery from "Love Connection," goofy and corny, but sans the bad toupee, trying to mediate the bears' love problems.

Dr. 2 doesn't quite measure up to the original. Murphy amuses as Dolittle again, but the real comedy is provided by the wildlife, from the love-struck bears to the cacophony of rodents, birds, and other forest critters.

In truth, Dr. 2 is an amusing flick for any age group, any type of person, under the age of eight. Don't expect it to be too different from the first installation. Anybody for Bowfinger 2. No, Holy Man 2. Yeah, that's the next Murphy sequel.
