"We waited in line the entire time for the caricature.... It was the two of us and also two of our good friends, and so she just put four of us on a page. They were really good, I thought."

"We only stayed for a little while and then we went off and did other things because there were usually a lot of people, a lot of lines and a lot of crowds. So orientation activities were fun, but it kind of seemed that they were spread out--I don't know, a week is a long time to do orientation before school because then you're like, OK, when's school gonna start?"

"We live in Hill House, so when Hill House did the whole orientation just for the dorm itself it was really cool to meet the people you were going to be living with for the next year.... You'll say, `Hi, I'm Blah-blah-blah, what's your name... that I'm not going to remember in 10 minutes.'"

"[Hill]'s a community atmosphere--our rooms may be the size of a shoebox and there's no air conditioning, but the bonds you make with the people down your hall or in your suite are definitely stronger than those in the Quad." Caroline Canty, Nursing freshman (right) "[The caricature] was actually pretty good--it was kind of, like, out of proportion or whatever, but it's pretty realistic, I think."

"The walking tours were cool--I learned more about diversity and stuff like that than I ever had before.... I met this kid who played squash--I had never met anyone who played squash before, and that's where [Cacky and I] met each other.... I've met a lot of people at the [New Student Orientation] events, but you don't remember their names or anything."

"But really, it's meeting people in the bathroom and stuff; that's how you become friends with them... [or it's as if] in 10 minutes I'm gonna need to look at your door and ask you 10 times how to pronounce [your name] anyway."

"I think everyone always complains about being in Hill House, but it's really cool, I really like it, because of the way it's set up and stuff like that, everyone's always like `Awww, you're living in Hill House, that's so bad, I want to live in the Quad,' but I like it... because in the Quad they only have one or two little rooms set up and ours is the whole hallway"
