sloshing good time
Sippin' by the River, wine and food tasting
Penn's Landing, Columbus Boulevard and Spring Garden Street
Sunday, 1-5 p.m., $40
www.sippinbytheriver.com
Take Restaurant Week, soak it in specialty wines and imported beers, miniaturize the food portions, throw in a little live music and a great cause, and you've got Sippin' by the River, an annual benefit for the Crohn's and Colitis Foundation of America. What better way to spend a Saturday afternoon than getting tipsy from snazzy bevs and enjoying the adorableness of cocktail weenies on toothpicks? Not to mention you'll be given the opportunity to boost your wine savvy, impressing all of your friends as you turn up your nose at Yellowtail for a French wine whose name you can't really pronounce without sounding like a tool. Whether you're genuinely interested or just want to avoid those friendly salespeople at the Wine and Spirits, fork over the forty bucks and go sip and socialize for a good cause.

A wise man once said that girls only want boyfriends who have great skills. You know, like nunchuck skills, bowhunting skills, computer hacking skills. Here at Penn, it's hard to find someone, student or not, sans skills. Take, for instance, the lovely card-swiping ladies of Commons. They have wrist-flicking dexterity that you and I can only dream of. For all of you talented people out there who take pride in your creative juices and want to display them to big-shot business folks, the Creative Industries Career Fair is certainly the place for you. With featured industries ranging from architecture to music production, you're sure to find something that suits your fancy. Job-seekers will have the opportunity to interact, a.k.a. shake hands and rub shoulders, with experienced professionals. Pre-registration is required, so put your online navigational skills to work, then hop on down to World Caf‚ Live and start planning your fast-approaching future (oh joy).

Sudoku Championship Mall Tour
Montgomery Mall
Saturday, 10 a.m.-9:30 p.m, Free
(215) 362-1600
Sudoku addicts - you know the kind. They rip the small Sudoku square out of the DP and slyly (or not so slyly) hide it under their notebook, writing in any number they can fit in before the professor catches them. And now these number-game enthusiasts can finally make the migration to their very own Mecca: the Montgomery Mall, one of the stops on the Sudoku Championship Mall Tour. Beginners to experts are welcome to practice and show off their puzzle-solving skills in preparation for the Philadelphia Inquirer Sudoku Championship, the first-ever of its kind, held at the Philadelphia Convention Center, October 19-21. Winners at all levels will earn prizes for their abilities. So Sudoku experts and novices, go beyond the DP Sudoku - it can only lead to dirty looks from your TAs and seminar peers - and head to Montgomery Mall this Saturday. Maybe you'll even get some problem-solving tips for your LSATs or OCR interviews, whichever torture you choose to endure.

Philadelphia Flyers vs. New Jersey Devils
Preseason Game
Wachovia Center

Come on, admit it - you like to watch grown men shroud themselves in padding, dash around with sticks and try to kill each other. So what better opportunity to watch the bloodbath in person than at the Flyers vs. Devils game, less than twenty minutes from campus? While most preseason matches are better known for sheer exhibitionism and affable sportsmanship, the Flyers and Devils have traded Atlantic Division titles every year since 1995, and their longstanding rivalry is now more heated than ever. For those of you not up on sports, it's something as heated as the Kanye/50 Cent rivalry. Not a big fan of athletics? Attend just to check out the Wachovia Center, known for its modern design, fan-friendly atmosphere, and an all-you-can-eat package available for purchase. Hey, if the venue's good enough for Bruce Springsteen, the Republican National Convention, and WrestleMania, it should be good enough for you. Still don't know which sport we're talking about? (It's hockey.) We best be seeing you there.

Paris. Milan. LA. New York. Philadelphia? Let's be honest, none of us chose Philly for its fashion. The name Philadelphia is more likely to conjure up images of cheese steaks, diehard sports fans, and colonial history than fabulous clothes and models on runways. For those of you seeking a little more sophistication, you probably just deal with the $70 Amtrak rape of your wallet and go to NYC. However, next week Philadelphians and visitors alike can look no further than Market Street for the ultimate fashion experience. Celebrating its 14th anniversary, Phasion Phest 2007 is the Delaware Valley's premier fashion event, showcasing the work of local designers, hair and makeup specialists, and accessory experts. Retailers - including Bloomingdale's, Sephora, Chanel, Nicole Miller Philadelphia, Van Cleve collection, Doneckers, Suky, Zinman, and the Kimberly Boutique - will also be sporting their new looks on the runway. So whether you are a fashionista looking for a fix, someone trying to date one (bad choice, but who are we to judge?), or just looking for something to do on a Monday, bust out the heels and strut your stuff.
