War and Peace

Although almost unknown to American audiences, this Soviet adaptation of the epic novel was the most expensive movie ever made ($500 million when adjusted for inflation). The Battle of Borodino scene shows over 120,000 extras from the Soviet Army on screen. One can't help but wonder if the film's excessive budget contributed to the downfall of the Soviet Union.

Saving Private Ryan

The first twenty minutes of this film portray with stunning realism the D-Day landing in Normandy. The scene has even caused post-traumatic stress in veterans who watch the movie.

Monty Python and the Holy Grail

The battle between King Arthur and the French Knights who throw cows is sure to cause post-traumatic stress for anyone who has fought in a battle with flying farm animals.

Lawrence of Arabia

This portrayal of T.E. Lawrence marks the greatest moment in epic filmmaking. The scene depicting the Battle of Aqaba remains one of the most beautiful ever shot. Given Lawrence's success with camel warfare, maybe the U.S. should look into trading Blackwater for camels.
