Street Takes You Out: Classic Philly

Follow this Philly native to discover the lesser-known haunts of this fair town.

South Street Diner

(140 South Street)

Tell them Street sent you. They won't know what it means, but we promise you'll feel better just for saying it. Oh, and get an omelet.

El Fuego

(723 Walnut Street)

The Californians on campus are always whining about the absence of "authentic burritos." Kindly shut up, everyone. There is exactly one place in this world where nothing bad ever happens, where angels always sing and where babies never cry. El Fuego is that place. A chicken burrito from El Fuego is better than oral sex, better than Democrats in the White House, better even than a Jackie Chan movie. Go there. NOW.

The TLA

(334 South Street)

Alright, so the suits technically changed this concert venue's name to "The Fillmore at the TLA." They are wrong. Fight the man and do yourself a favor by sounding like a local and just let "TLA" roll off the tongue. This may be the best concert venue in Philly and it attracts big acts (Lupe Fiasco) and small (Twiztid - who's that anyway?).

Logan Circle

(smack dab in the middle of the Parkway, right next to the Four Seasons)

A calmer version of Rittenhouse Square with a water fountain to end all water fountains. Caution: Do not play in this fountain. The homeless do bathe in it whence come nightfall.

Giovanni's Pizza

(Greene Street, between Chelten Ave. and Coulter Street)

Is it near campus? No. Do you have any reason to go there? Yes. The food is that good; the people are that nice. It's everything Allegro's isn't.
