If you’re without a Valentine this year, you don’t want to support the Hallmarketing racket, or you think that Saturday the 14th is more ominous than its preceding Friday the 13th, check out one of the anti-Valentine’s Day celebrations going on in Philly this month. Organized by Meet Market Adventures, these events are sure to herald the beauty of singledom on this all too couple-centric day. The first, happening on Thursday, February 12 is a massive party at Mad River Bar and Grille in Philadelphia’s Old City. Your first drink is free, hors d’oeuvres will be plentiful and the night will include dancing with a top Philly DJ. The event will have contests and games, thousands of dollars worth of door prizes and a chance to meet people who hate V-Day as much as you do. Tickets can be purchased online for $20 or at the door for $25. It starts and ends early so you’ll still have a chance to hit the Thursday night scene back on campus, perhaps with some newly acquired anti-V-Day pals.

The second event is on the dreaded day itself, but it is assured to be the most interesting thing you’ve ever done on February 14. Perfect for the Amazing Race enthusiast, this city-wide scavenger hunt will team up participants with the goal of finding a variety of fun (and racy) items over three and a half hours, all while utilizing the joys of digital photography and SEPTA. It ends where it starts, at Rum Bar Lounge and Restaurant at 20th and Walnut and the team with the most points scores $200 toward other events. The day of love isn’t just for couples, especially since so many like-minded singles roam the city. Why sulk in solitude when you can mock en masse?
