Design Philadelphia Has Arrived

Sure, Etch-a-Sketch and coloring books were awesome when you were little, but now that you’re all grown up it’s time to broaden your horizons. DesignPhiladelphia, a city-wide cultural event, offers an experience for the amateur artist and professional alike. With 140 exhibitions, lectures and workshops spanning topics from architecture to automobiles, this is no ordinary art show.

Starting with the kick-off event on October 7 (hosted at Love Park) and lasting through the 13th, DesignPhiladelphia is a chance to see Philly at its finest. You can choose to explore the exhibitions on your own, take a tour or sign up for a workshop or lecture.

Highlights:

8static’s 1-Year Anniversary Event Oct. 10, 7 p.m. at Studio 34, 45th and Baltimore 8static is a monthly audiovisual showcase of lo-fi and 8-bit electronics. Nationally-recognized and local performers will be featured along with a free pre-show workshop and afterparty.

Philadelphia Fashion Week Oct. 8-10, 5-10 p.m. every day at the 23rd Street Armory

Whiskey Tasting: It’s All In The Glass Oct. 9, 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. at Hudson Beach Glass, 26 S. Strawberry St. Sean Gilvey, owner of Hudson Beach Glass, teams up with Stephen Seibert of Village Whiskey to bring whiskey lovers a new drinking experience. Gilvey creates the glasses while Seibert serves up three whiskey flavors using your new glass. A $40 ticket buys you a glass, whiskey tasting and snacks provided by Amada.
