The Round Up: 12.3.09

Thanksgiving Break didn’t officially start until Turkey Day itself (thanks, Penn!), but most of you ducked out of here long before that. Great news for you, bad news for the week's Roundup. So in case you checked yourself out over the holidays, here’s what you missed the weekend before. Last week was all about the fall show season. Penn’s spoken word poetry group (and Street fave) Excelano kicked off the weekend with performances on Thursday and Saturday nights. Tipsters tell us the Thursday show sold out to the point that fans paid to stand in the back of a Hillel auditorium to watch the group perform. Later that night, Twilight fans — including those partaking in the many sorority field trips — lined up starting at 9:30 to catch the midnight showing of New Moon. Geek-fest? Absolutely. Were we there? You betcha. For those who ventured off campus, the downtown scene saw a continuation of pre-rush battles when the fellas of a certain Pine-dwelling society allegedly tried to sway frosh away from a rival frat’s party at G Lounge. Friday marked the Dzine2Show fashion show, where aspiring Penn designers showed off their custom apparel. We hear the designs impressed fans, but the Wadel (Walk model, that is) walks left something to be desired. Off the Beat performed on Friday and Saturday nights. As expected, the group entertained the audience with their set list of songs we love, songs we’re over and songs we’ve never heard of. By Tuesday campus looked like a ghost town, which left us wondering when Penn will learn to kick off T-giving early. Here’s hoping this week will find you in a more exciting (and drunker) state than the last!
