Venomous snakes, bird-eating spiders and man-eating crocodiles? Only one man is fit for this adventure — the Crocodile Hunter himself. After years of being glued to the television set following the adventures of Steve and Terri Irwin, I was more than ready for the film adaptation of Animal Planet’s Crocodile Hunter.

Crocodile Hunter: Collision Course brings us along with the Irwin duo through the drama of reptile-wrestling and conservation-fighting. However, this story gives the Irwins a new enemy: poachers. Unfortunately, these poachers are actually government agents looking for a top-secret satellite beacon that is hidden in the stomach of Steve’s next crocodile case.

The cheesy plot and awkward translation from reality TV to the big screen is forgiven by all true Croc fans. The script is rife with our favorite Steve-isms: (“Crikey!”), and I couldn’t help but fall for the man that inspired so many backyard adventures into the “bush" and taught us that even the scariest of animals are people too.

Since the tragic stingray incident of 2006, even Steve’s not-so-brilliant career choices have been put on a pedestal. This may be the only way to transport us back to the good old days of khaki shorts and daring animal rescues.
