As Off the Beat's musical director, Jung Kim has mastered a cappella noises most of us can only dream of. When she's not people–watching or dreaming about magic, this Friar and Lucy Liu wannabe can be found putting on an awesome show, whether it's onstage or in her room for her neighbors. You can catch Off the Beat's spring show, The 24th Bicentennial Christmas Spectacular, this Friday and Saturday in Harrison Auditorium (33rd and Spruce St.) at 7 p.m.

Street: If you were in a reality show, which would it be? Jung Kim: American Gladiators.

Street: What will you miss most about Penn? JK: People–watching. It’s just not as satisfying anywhere else. One time, I saw a walk of shame at 5 a.m. Girl was dedicated.

Street: My PennCard photo looks like I’m… JK: About to punch someone in the face. I think I was just bitter about the extra $25 it cost me to replace the one I had lost.

Street: What's the weirdest dream you’ve ever had? JK: There was one dream when I found that I had magical powers, but they could only be used to affect plant life. Like that movie A Troll in Central Park (seen it?). Completely useless, but interesting enough.

Street: If you taught a class at Penn it would be… JK: Contemporary Issues of Human Sexuality.

Street: You’re this week’s ego. Who’s your alter–ego? JK: Lucy Liu’s character “Alex” from Charlie’s Angels. She’s a Kung–Fu Mistress, and I like it.

Street: What don’t people know about you? JK: They probably don’t know that I dance around in my underwear when no one’s home… sorry, roomies/neighbors. Too soon?

Street: What's your favorite a cappella noise? JK: Fe na ke na le na me na (super super fast). Took me months.

Street: Tell us the best Off the Beat tour story. JK: My freshman and sophomore year, we went to Puerto Plata in the Dominican Republic. Both of those years, the same man selling trinkets on the beach asked me if I was Jackie Chan’s sister. This was the year before we actually lost one of our members surfing on the beach somewhere in Malibu. He somehow found his way back by hitchhiking in his wetsuit, carrying his surfboard and sunburnt like none other… maybe you had to be there.

Street: Which song best describes you? JK: “I’m a Bitch, I’m a Lover” by Alanis Morissette

Street: How many Off the Beaters does it take to screw in a light bulb? JK: Twelve. One person to screw it in, ten people to argue about it, and one Nate Budischak to make some witty comment about it.
