1. DAVOS TO MELISSANDRE

Mellisandre: “How would you punish the infidels, Ser Davos?"

Davos: “I don’t judge people for the gods they worship. And if I did I’d have thrown you in the sea.”

Oh Davos, I was afraid they killed you off. You were the one island of sanity in the sea of crazed fiery priestess followers that is Dragonstone Keep. It’s nice to see you back and doling out the judgment.

2. JEOR MORMONT TO SAM

Mormont: “You had one job. Your only job…”

Poor Sam. He’s finally starting to get accepted by the rest of the Night’s Watch when his bad habit of failing at absolutely everything pops up again. Even worse, in the first scene of the season! It doesn’t help that Mormont goes on to tell everyone else that if the rest of them fail, “ You and everyone you ever knew will be dead.” Harsh.

3. HALF DEAD SOLDIER TO ROBB

Robb: “You’re lucky to be alive.”

HDS: (looks around at the hundreds of bodies)  “...lucky?”

"Game of Thrones," while a lot of fun to watch, isn’t afraid to make a statement here and there, on the horrors of war and whatnot. It’s always nice when one of these points can make you question who’s being the hero. Is all this death in Robb’s war for a just cause, or are all these people being sacrificed for the vanity of a few powerful people?

4. CERSEI TO MARGAERY

Margaery: "The lowest among us are no different than the highest if you approach them with an open heart.”

Cersei: (Gives her a truly magnificent screw-you smile)

Cersei drips with a special sort of evil, blending an entitled misanthropy with a ruthless realpolitik. Talking about charity with her is like giving your iPhone a bath – it doesn’t compute. All Cersei can do is sit and give Margaery a smile’s equivalent of cyanide.

5. TYRION TO CERSEI

Cersei: “You’re not half as clever as you think you are.”

Tyrion: “Still makes me more clever than you.”

Granted, we could fill a list with Tyrion zingers every week, but this one was arguably the most satisfying. Since it was Cersei who was behind Tyrion’s fall from political power and who tried to have him assassinated during the course of the last two episodes, it’s nice to see Tyrion hasn’t lost it. He can be at the absolute bottom and still confidently stand up to those on top. A close runner up to this one: “Grandmaster Pycell made that same joke. You must be proud to be as funny as a man whose balls brush his ankles.”
