How I Met Your Mother Recap: "Last Time in New York"

How I Met Your Mother

Robin and Barney: While the elderly relatives stream in to the Farhampton Inn, Robin and Barney embark on a mission to find a hot place for sex. You know, to prove they aren’t that boring married couple, yet.

The old relatives: They love Mandy Patinkin, which was a fun fact about elderly people that I did not know. It’s honestly kinda surprising that old people watch “Homeland,” but then again, everyone watches “Homeland.” And the best line of the episode was delivered by a nameless old relative to James: “I have a gay question for you.”

Marshall and Marvin: Marshall and Marvin have made it to Packer Nation on their Minnesota–to–New York road trip. Obviously, as die hard Vikings fans, Marshall and baby Marvin are reppin’ the purple and gold. Not sure what to think about the fact that they took a road-trip pit stop to change into the full Vikings outfits they just happened to be carrying around, though...

Ted and Lily: Lily finds Ted’s list of things he wants to do before he leaves New York. One is to say goodbye to the beloved Empire State Building, which he calls “Empy.” Cute or lame? The perennial issue when it comes to Ted Mosby. Another fun Ted–Lily moment involves a bottle of Barney’s 30 year old scotch, hand sanitizer and Lily’s kindergarten students. I’ll leave you to guess the specifics of that one.

The Mother: She’s not in this episode. Which is upsetting because I feel like The Mother and I have the potential to be great friends.

Plot twist that makes you want to watch next week: Barney happens upon Ted and Robin in a very dramatic scene where the two former lovers are digging by the carousel in Central Park. This scene actually did not need to be half as dramatic as the show designed it, complete with requisite rainy downpour. After all, nothing really happened.(i.e. no accidental Robin–Ted makeout sesh). And last time I checked, digging is neither romantic nor dramatic. Also, Robin is wearing a killer blue jacket in this scene; props to props.

‘Wicked: For Good’ is for the Theatre Kids

Wicked: For Good closes its story without awards recognition but with clear creative conviction. The film’s reception reflects a mismatch between its intentions and critical expectations. Designed as the second half of a continuous narrative, it prioritizes character depth and long-term emotional payoff over accessibility. In doing so, For Good succeeds less as a crowd-pleaser and more as a film made for those already invested in the world of Wicked.
