Haiku Reviews: 10/16

“The Northern Borders Tour. Live”—Bonobo

Electronic beats

Are better with a horn part.

But a live album?

Grade: B

Download:  “Recurring/We Could Forever – Live”

Sounds best when:  Doing a practice Math 104 exam for the seventh time in the basement of VP at 3 a.m.

“Our Love”—Caribou

Strange synths, dancey drums,

and ethereal vocals.

I’m weirdly turned on?

Grade:  A-

Download:  “Can’t Do Without You”

Sounds best when:  Trying to energize yourself in the wake of midterms

“Neon Future”—Steve Aoki

Even when rolling,

This sounds like a bunch of farts.

Please, God, make it stop.

Grade:  F

Download:  Just don’t. Don’t download any of it. Since my editors are going to make me put something, I guess “Back to Earth,” because it has Fall Out Boy, which is hilarious.

Sounds best when:  Never. There is no time when this album sounds best, because it always sounds like it was made by a 12–year–old with a MIDI keyboard who just happened to be able to get Waka Flocka Flame to guest on his album.

Raves and Rock

While not completely a rock album, Charli XCX’s second album of the year departs from the ‘Brat’ sound to deliver guitar–heavy tracks with even heavier lyrics.
