Serena Bian (C’ 18) was a sophomore when she first read the letters. She was sitting in a coffee shop and found herself sobbing in front of strangers. She’d found the Dear Penn Freshmen website, where upperclassmen upload heartfelt reflections and words of wisdom on their times at Penn.

Conspirator of Conspiracy Theorists: “Nick Foles’ profile pic makes him look like someone who reports on government conspiracies. The kinda guy that says ‘dossier’ a lot.”

Penn is the university that never sleeps. I live in a hall with 29 other people, and I doubt that there has ever been a moment when all of us were asleep. Coursework, extracurriculars, parties, and workouts combine to shape a uniquely packed schedule for each of us. People are generally left to their own devices to squeeze some sleep in between their commitments, resulting in vastly different sleep patterns.

College. In terms of love, it’s a term associated with meaningless hookups, Tinder, casual sex, Bumble, friends with benefits, Seeking Arrangements, and a glorification of the “no strings attached” style relationship. Then, there’s the crowd of hopeless romantics, or an increasingly larger crowd (after freshman year, at least), of people looking for long–term relationships.

Among College Hall and Locust Walk, the Quadrangle is one of the first images to appear after searching up Penn on Google Images. To outsiders it is one of the more majestic buildings on campus, but to students, the Quad is seen as the ultimate symbol of freshman life at Penn. What could be better than living in one huge building with hundreds of other freshmen trying to figure out their lives at college? It’s the perfect place to find friends, whether that be in your hall, a short walk away to another residential college, or in McClelland. Whenever you need to study with a classmate or comfort your friend after a rough night, you can be at their room within a couple of minutes and if it’s cold, you don’t even have to leave the building. Many students find their friend group in the Quad or generally enjoy the constant liveliness that is the result of students from all different types of backgrounds being crammed into two blocks. The Quad is almost like a mini neighborhood, but it is a neighborhood that is part of the fabric of Penn.

While most Penn students are able to identify, or at least acknowledge the presence of, LGBT groups on campus, few could specifically point to Penn Non–Cis, a transgender awareness and support group on campus, as a major influencer in the community. Brennan Burns (C ‘20), the club’s new financial chair, hopes to change this. Brennan discusses the group’s evolution at Penn and how she plans on help it grow in 2018.

Philadelphia Eagles fans have always had faith. We're used to heartbreak. But a tough end to one season has wiped the smiles off our faces. We collect ourselves. “There’s always next year,” we say. Each new coach or Quarterback raised our hopes. “This is the year,” we say every pre–season, only to be left empty–handed come February. Last year, the Birds ended the season with 7 wins and 9 losses, finishing last in their division. But as the 2017–18 season began, here we were once again, promising each other “This is our year.” And this time, we were right.

Meet The Greenfield Intercultural Center. Fondly known as the GIC to those who have been involved with it before, the Greenfield Intercultural Center serves as a home to countless students on campus.

Hill College House is like that brace–faced 8th grader in middle school who shows up to the first day of high school transformed into the trendiest person on campus. Hill was in its awkward phase to put it lightly, until this year. Now, it is the cool and coveted.

In today's post–Serial world, podcasting has reached an ubiquity that few saw coming. It stands to reason that the podcast boom would make its way to Penn. Here are just a few of Penn's podcasters, whether they're academic departments, individual students, or...Career Services? The more you know.

What is Penn, or any university, without constant construction and renovation? While bothersome, the building projects always gives students something to look forward to in the coming years. New College House West (NCHW) is one of these such projects and is slated to open in the fall of 2021. While no current students will be around to see it unveiled, it has still caused much discussion.

I don’t think I’ve ever met a family with such instant infectious energy as the Greys. As I entered through the glass doors of New College House on Friday to meet the house’s faculty director, Classical Studies Associate Professor Campbell Grey, I could barely utter a greeting before I was overtaken by the excitement of his two children upon seeing a new face in their midst. Connor, age four, couldn’t wait to show off his light–up snake toy and dangerously fast monster truck. Isabel, nine, confidently strutted alongside me through the dorm halls in her pajamas. Their self assurance was undeniable, one of many positive traits that Grey attributed to the unique structure of living in the college house system.

Waving at the cheering crowd, eyes gleaming from beneath the brim of his simple trucker hat, third–time Oscar nominee Woody Harrelson walked on the stage of the Zellerbach Theater on the evening of January 27th. The event marked a year from the release of Harrelson’s directorial debut, Lost in London. The film, which is inspired by a true story, recreates the events of a rather wild night: after his wife sees the cover of a magazine which suggests that Harrelson had an orgy the previous night, she threatens to leave him, and he goes out for drinks with an Arab prince. Naturally, chaos ensues—Harrelson runs into his “best friend” Owen Wilson, but gets into a fight with him after Wilson states that his best friend is Wes Anderson. Eventually, Harrelson ends up in prison, where he spends the night before being bailed out by his wife—and, of course, Owen Wilson. Lost in London was shot in a single–take, in real–time, with a single camera, and live–streamed into 550 theaters across the US on January 19th, 2017.

Children outside leap playfully, it’s warmer than usual, and cloudier. I can feel the ambiance changing from comfort to a sort of suspense as I see a small sign with the title “The Colored Girls Museum.” I realize, that despite brief research, I don’t know what to expect.

It had been one of those days. You know the type. You don’t need the specifics to understand, but I was tired, frustrated, and bored by life in general. I was annoyed at everyone, mostly at myself. I had gotten back into bed in the early afternoon, but I knew if I stayed there another moment I might explode.
