On Sunday November 18, over 30,000 runners hit the Philly streets for the Philadelphia Marathon. Think 26.2 miles is impossible? This week Street spoke to Penn students running full and half marathons to discuss their training plans, motivation, and pre–race rituals. Here’s what they advised:

This year, Penn’s campus was hit with its first snowfall pretty early, and every fiber of my being was not having it—skin included. My hands screamed for lotion the whole day and I must have applied chapstick two dozen times; when I got home, I took the longest shower of recent memory. One way some of my friends combat the winter cold is through getting a facial. Though I’ve never tried one, they swear by the treatment, reporting that it leaves their skin feeling soft and glowing. If your skin is dry and cracked due to the winter weather, duck into one of the following places to pamper your skin.

With Thanksgiving around the corner, most people tend to think about all the turkey, stuffing, and mashed potatoes they'll be consuming during the holiday. Not me! I’m thinking about sweet potato pies covered in ooey–gooey melted marshmallows, pumpkin pies with graham cracker shells, and crunchy pecan pies filled with decadently sweet maple syrup and brown sugar. If you're anything like me, you need to check out the following places to get your pie—fix for the upcoming holiday season.

The weather’s getting colder, but you don’t have to let your fitness goals wait until spring. Running can be an amazing stress outlet, and having an upcoming race gives you a reachable goal with a set deadline. Thankfully, Philadelphia has an abundance of runs of all distances and themes. Whether you run 5 miles in the first floor of Pottruck every morning, or have never even been to the gym, Philly has the perfect race for you.

The new Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald movie is coming up, and if you're anything like the Harry Potter fanatic I am, you hate it when you can’t figure out all of the references and details. A marathon is all you need to catch up and remember everything for the (much worse) new movie.

Spring Fling is a magical time of year: every April, we come together for the parties, the performances, the celebration of making it through another year at Penn—and it all culminates with a few musical guests putting on a show for us courtesy of SPEC. There’s been a diverse range of artists at Penn Park these past few years, from Chance the Rapper to Zedd to The All–American Rejects. So it got me thinking—who would be some performers that I’d like to see at Fling this year? For openers, they’d have to be rising stars with plenty of songs for singing along and a vibe that can get the crowd going early on. Headliners should be new big names with a number of popular radio singles within the last few years that’ll build the requisite excitement for the event.

Not All Heroes Wear Capes is the album Metro Boomin wanted us all to be waiting for. Just seven months ago, Metro announced his retirement from hip hop via an Instagram post. However, the retirement was short lived as billboards started appearing in New York City that read “METRO BOOMIN’ MISSING PERSONS.” Then, Not All Heroes Wear Capes finally dropped, packed with features from artists like Gucci Mane, Travis Scott, 21 Savage, Gunna, Young Thug, and Swae Lee. Not All Heroes Wear Capes is Metro Boomin’s debut studio album after becoming infamous for playing a huge role in productions like Future’s DS2 with “Mask Off” and of course, Migos’ “Bad and Boujee.”

Waxing, shaving, weaves, extensions, going au–natural; how women style their hair is highly commodified and politicized. Learn more about such topics with PAGE—the Penn Association for Gender Equality—at their annual “Love Your Body Week” exhibition, a celebration of self–love and women’s empowerment.

College is supposed to be a time for trying new things and figuring out who you are, which for some of us serves as an invitation to finally buy that mahogany Gibson Les Paul you’ve been wanting to learn how to play ever since fourth grade. Then, you go to the Gibson website and see that the guitar of your dreams costs just shy of $3,000 and think maybe playing an instrument isn’t for you.

Nothing says like self–care like a solid face mask. Unfortunately, sheet masks don’t always come cheap. This week, in an effort to save $$$ and de–stress from midterms, I treated myself to a DIY spa day. Using simple pantry ingredients, I recreated staple beauty products for a quick at–home pamper session, with interesting results.

Although it may not be common in college, I am abstinent. I want to hide when sex enters the conversation—it makes me feel excluded. The way my high school peers used to talk about it put an entire gender into a pool of unidentified bodies. There was no way I could crawl out of the sea and get them to hear me. Their sexual nonchalance made me an outcast, because I didn’t see them the way they saw me.

On Sunday, Nov. 4, we turned our clocks back and gained an extra hour of blissful sleep. While many of us appreciated this opportunity to catch up on some much–needed rest, gaining an hour of daylight in the morning means losing an hour of light in the afternoon.

Running a successful food Instagram account takes more than picking the perfect filter. This week Street talked to four “insta–famous” food Instagrammers at Penn to discover the tips and tricks of the trade.

I hate to say it, but cows are old news. With the rise of health trends like veganism, it seems like alternatives to food products are created every day, and milk is no exception. Almonds, soy, coconuts, oats—the options have become endless. You shouldn't have to think so hard when deciding what to put in your cereal or latte.

Dead bread. Doesn't sound too appetizing, does it? With Halloween festivities recently past, I feel like I've been surrounded by all things spooky and scary. And even though "dead bread" sounds like it’d be frightening, I can tell you right now—it's not. It's delicious.

We all love sleep—it’s a pleasant escape from reality into the realm of dreams that allows you to get that much–needed rest, preparing you for the next day. However, us Penn students struggle to siesta sometimes, spending late nights in the dark corners of the Van Pelt basement or a secluded Huntsman GSR. After pulling an all–nighter for that math midterm, you are going to want to take a nap in the middle of the day. However, it might not be that easy to doze off—what can you do? Well, you can listen to soothing, relaxing music that will lull you into a deep slumber. The songs are quiet and harmonic—their genres don’t matter as long as they minimize the discord in your ears. This is the playlist for you:
