Before a weekend that will surely be saturated with parties of the frat, you might be looking for a little something something of another variety. Consider Pizza Rustica. It may sound strange, but to your ignorance, Pizza Rustica has been hosting dance parties on alternate Thursday nights for months. The parties, called Thump for the "thumpy" music they play, feature live DJs, cheap drinks ($2 lagers and $2 shot specials), no cover charges, and -- believe it or not -- free stuff sponsored by the likes of Sam Adams.

The place, which ordinarily serves as a restaurant, is converted into a full-fledged nightclub when 10 o'clock rolls around. The tables and chairs are cleared away, lights are dimmed and the party gets started. The spinning table, set against the rows of wood used to fire up the brick pizza oven, dishes out music that is chill and sexy. If you've danced yourself silly and need a break, head over to the Marketplace area where you can sit and enjoy one of Rustica's famous slices for only a buck. Patrick Fleming, the dance/day manager, describes Thump as an opportunity for students to "enjoy some drinks, dance off some stress, and flirt with that cutie at the end of the bar." If parties are not your cup of tea, Pizza Rustica also serves affordable authentic Italian food every night, including Thump night before 10. The owner, Rosemary Certo, from Sicily herself and a most amicable woman, calls her menu a comprehensive "meal in one." Take advantage of the full bar as well, and have a cocktail with your pizza or panini. Rustica also has a large selection of bottled and draft beers, and offers drink specials after 5 p.m. So the next time you're hungry or if you're 21 and in the mood for a party, think close to home -- the Pizza Rustica next door.
