As everyone knows, Philadelphia proudly calls itself the "City of Brotherly Love." Not a day goes by without feeling shrouded in "love"-- whether it's Handy Andy screaming "Fuck you mother fucker" outside one's window, getting the hairy eyeball while ordering a sandwich at Houston Hall or almost getting hit by a Septa bus on one's way to class. Well, maybe we don't feel loved everyday, but if friendliness and belly-aching laughter is something you crave, then turn off Comedy Central and head down to the Laff House.

Proud to call itself "Philadelphia's original comedy club," the venue showcases some of the country's best comedians. Headliners include: Denny Live, Shang, TuRae, Azeem, J.B. Smoove, Fat Doctor and a personal favorite, Cool Bubba Ice. Dave Attell recently preformed at the Laff House under the stage name of "The Mad Shitter" on his Insomniac tour of Philadelphia.

For those of you with a penchant for comedy and predilection for the spot light, Wednesday nights are Open Mic night. Performers get a possibly painful seven minutes to strut their stuff. If you step up to bat, it might be wise to plant friends throughout the audience so you don't look like an ass when your punch line "they actually thought I shopped at the Gap" does not go over as planned. Still, the tables could always turn the other way. A talent scout in the audience may love your self-deprecating humor and suggest you tour the globe, battling hecklers and dodging beer bottles at every stop.

For a limited time only the Laff House is featuring ticket specials for select Thursday and Saturday night shows. So save that $9 you would have spent on a Gia Pronto salad and have a good hard laugh at one of Philadelphia's entertainment landmarks.
