If you’re anything like us, you’ve spent countless hours in front of the television drooling over the glorious hues of BBC’s Planet Earth. Tonight, you can enjoy the fantastic visual experience in the great outdoors (or about as outdoors as it gets in Philly, in Fairmount Park’s Mann Center for the Performing Arts). Selections from the award-winning documentary with be screened over a performance courtesy of the Philadelphia Orchestra. Bring a blanket for the lawn, and perhaps some picnic supplies. Philly’s own Diplo has exploded on the hip-hop and electronic scene, producing songs for Santigold and M.I.A., and comprising one-half of Major Lazer. Even though he’s in the big leagues now, our boy still has love for the streets, and is showing us by hosting a free block party at 12th and Green, featuring musical guests Kid Sister, the Deathset and Blaqstarr. Last year the festivities included free food, a ballpit, and a moon bounce, so we can only hope that this year the Mad Decent Block Party gets just as crazy. Saturday July 31, 2:00 p.m. (Free!)

Northern Liberities is home to some of the hottest spots in the city, from the bustling bars El Camino Real and Yard’s Brewing Company to all the art galleries and boutiques in the Piazza at Schmidts. The Business Owner’s Association is closing down five blocks of 2nd Street for the 2nd Annual Street Festival with a line-up of local bands (including Post Post and Tough Sh*ts), four beer gardens, 60 vendors, and carnival games, including a dunk tank, and yes, another moon bounce.
